What is it like in Klamath County? 

Klamath Falls is classified as a High Desert, with temperate summers and moderate winters. We are known as the “City of Sunshine” because the sun shines 300 days a year here! With its nearby lakes and streams, natural beauty surrounds this rural location. It is not uncommon to see wildlife such as pelicans, bald eagles, deer, among many other species that are majestic to behold. A short drive can take you to Crater Lake, the Lava Beds National Monument, many waterfalls, and countless beautiful hikes. This is a place for people who like the outdoors! What are the people like? What do they do? 

 Klamath Falls is a military town, home of the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field, a training base for the Air National Guard. Rural landscapes surrounding the city are utilized for farming and ranching. Klamath is also a college town, home of Oregon Institute of Technology and Klamath Community College. Many medical students are in programs practicing medicine in our hospital, Sky Lakes Medical Center. Sky Lakes serves as a major employer in the Klamath Basin. Many Klamath Falls residents are also employed by the colleges, city and county school districts, and manufacturing facilities. 

 

What cities or towns are close by? 

A short drive in any direction from Klamath Falls will bring you to a nearby community. Keno, Chiloquin, Merrill, Malin, Bonanza, and Tulelake are all rural communities that offer their own charm and appeal. In order to visit a larger city, a bit of travel is required. Medford is the closest, located 77 miles west, followed by Bend, which is 137 miles North. Redding, CA is 141 miles south, and just over 250 miles southeast is Reno, NV.
